Mia Carucci shares debut EP “As Above So Below”
Today, LA-based singer/songwriter/producer, Mia Carucci releases their debut EP As Above So Below via Last Gang. The 7-track self-produced EP As Above So Below explores and pays homage to the sounds rooted in Afro-Indigenous traditions from Latin America and the Caribbean synthesized through their cultural and sonic influences of experimental dance music, trip-hop, and jazz. The EP title derives its name from Carucci’s guiding mantra; a reminder that every decision made in the physical realm affects the spiritual realm. The highly conceptual EP sonically draws inspiration from Carucci’s Miami roots, incorporating Latin American and Caribbean influences into their electronic, jazz, trip-hop foundation to create an immersive sound that invokes the otherworldly. The dark and meditative video for “Primal Deep” directed by Miwah Lee, successfully captures the raw feelings of the sleepless havoc that romantic disillusionment brings upon a person. Speaking on the visual, Carucci adds “the video for Primal Deep is a love note to early 2000s sterile and understated beauty. Fiona Apple meets Deftones. A visual reset for not only myself, but hopefully everyone to take a moment away from the chaos and focus on storytelling again.”
Growing up in Miami, Carucci made the move west and steadily emerged through the Los Angeles DJ scene, landing performances on Boiler Room, NTS, and even opening for Earl Sweatshirt and Kali Uchis x Jorja Smith. With the previous releases of “Pomba Gira” and “Dreams,” Carucci has already gained acclaim from Office Magazine, Hypebae, Flaunt Magazine, Sound and Colour and more. An artist in every facet, Carucci is often a muse to contemporary brands like No Sesso, Phlemuns and has walked for Gypsy Sport’s fashion show in LA, and DJing for Burberry’s fashion presentation in LA.
